PRÉSENTATION DE L’ARTISTE

Née en 1969 dans la région de la Montérégie, Jocelyne Dumont vit aujourd’hui à Lac-Beauport, en banlieue de Québec.

Bien qu’elle soit une artiste autodidacte, le dessin et la peinture ont toujours fait partie de sa vie. L’art a toujours été son mode d’expression et son refuge. Enfant, son milieu familial n’est pas propice au développement artistique, mais une capacité est bien présente en elle. Elle suit donc des cours de dessin au niveau collégial et débute un baccalauréat en arts plastiques à l’Université Laval que les aléas de la vie ont fait interrompre au profit d’un travail en administration. Or, c’est la participation aux sessions Ateliers Toiles Blanches, animées avec Suzanne Longval, qui a véritablement été l’élément déclencheur. De plus, Diane Gagnon, coach de vie, auteure et conférencière – une personne très importante dans sa vie – l’encourage fortement à se lancer dans la profession d’artiste peintre. Ayant trouvé une certaine confiance en elle, grâce à de bons commentaires, en 2016, elle expose en tant qu’artiste permanente à la Galerie Zen, alors située à Lac-Beauport. Elle y exposera jusqu’en 2017. Elle y rencontre d’autres artistes et des professionnels du milieu de l’art. Elle participe également à une table ronde entre artistes sur l’art et son avenir au Québec. Cette première présence en galerie sera un tremplin formidable pour l’artiste qui obtient, dans la foulée, une exposition à la Galerie MJ Laberge de Boucherville dans laquelle le public la retrouve au début de l’année 2017. Entre temps, Jocelyne Dumont – qui signe ses œuvres DUMONT – poursuit sa formation en développement de carrière. Son but est d’aller plus loin dans cette profession qui lui permet de s’exprimer sans aucune contrainte et d’être vraiment elle. En 2017, elle expose au ArtExpo New York à New York, à Palm Spring, à Miami et à West Palm Beach (USA). Cette même année, elle est choisie pour participer au projet d’art Corrid’art à Lac-Beauport, une visibilité assurée jusqu’en 2019, avec la Guilde artistique de Lac-Beauport (GALB). En 2018, elle se retrouve à nouveau au ArtExpo New York pour une deuxième année consécutive où elle y rencontre un certain succès.

En 2018, elle éprouve la nécessité de s’entourer de professionnels du milieu des arts qui connaissent bien le marché international. Son travail est évaluée par une experte en art qui établie sa valeur en considérant sa présence de plus en plus marquée sur le marché américain.

En 2019, elle poursuit son cheminement professionnel avec des expositions internationales, notamment au Art Palm Beach Contemporary Art Fair, à West Palm Beach (USA), au Musée d’art contemporain VR 3D (MAC VR 3D) en France, et à l’Internation’ART, une exposition internationale au Canada. Elle obtient plusieurs distinctions pour son travail, dont une Grande Distinction honorifique du CIAAZ et deux certificats de reconnaissance pour avoir participé à des expositions collectives dans un musée en France. Elle obtiendra deux autres certificats en 2020 et un en 2021 pour des expositions internationales au Musée d’art contemporain VR 3D (MACVR3D). Toujours en 2019, l’artiste est représentée de façon permanente dans le projet Corrid’Art à Lac-Beauport, une exposition en plein art au Parc de la Gentiane. Une deuxième oeuvre s’y rajoutera par la suite en 2021. Entre temps, en 2019 et 2020, elle participe à l’évènement « Le mois des galeries » respectivement dans la cour intérieure du Musée de la civilisation à Québec et au Vieux Port de Québec.

En 2020, elle fait partie des quelques artistes professionnels qui participent à une étude sociologique ayant trait aux effets de la pandémie dans la pratique artistique chez les artistes en arts visuels. Le dossier spécial est publié en deux volets, sur HEART, magazine des arts. A l’été 2021, elle réitère l’expérience auprès d’artistes sélectionnés pour faire partie de la suite de l’étude sociologique.

A l’heure actuelle, DUMONT est en production et prépare ses prochaines expositions.

INTRODUCTION

Born in 1969 in the Montérégie region (in the southwest part of Quebec), Jocelyne Dumont now lives in Lac-Beauport, in the suburbs of Quebec City.

Although she is a self-taught artist, drawing and painting have always been a part of her life. Art has always been her mode of expression and her refuge, her haven of peace. As a child, her family environment was not conducive to artistic development, but a capacity was clearly present in her. Therefore, she took drawing lessons at the college level and began a bachelor’s degree in visual arts at Laval University that the vagaries of life had interrupted in favor of work in administration. However, it was the participation in the Toiles Blanches Workshops, hosted with Suzanne Longval, that was the real spark. In addition, Diane Gagnon, life coach, author and speaker – a very important person in her life – strongly encourages her to take up the profession of painter. Having found some confidence in herself, thanks to good comments, in 2016, she exhibited as a permanent artist at the Galerie Zen, then located in Lac-Beauport. She will exhibit there until 2017. She meets there some other artists and professionals from the art world. She also participates in a discussion (a debate) with other artists concerning art and its future in the province of Quebec. This first presence in an art gallery will be a tremendous springboard for the artist who, in the process, obtains an exhibition at the Galerie MJ Laberge in Boucherville in which the public will find her at the beginning of 2017. In the meantime, Jocelyne Dumont – who signs her artworks “DUMONT” – continues her training in career development. Her goal is to go further in this profession which allows her to express herself without any constraint and to truly be herself. In 2017, she exhibited at New York ArtExpo in New York City, Palm Spring, Miami and West Palm Beach (USA). That same year, she was selected to participate in the Corrid’art, an art project, in Lac-Beauport, with a visibility until 2019, in assocation with the Art Guild of Lac-Beauport (GALB in French). In 2018, she exhibited again at New York ArtExpo for a second consecutive year where she met with some success.

In 2018, she felt the need to surround herself with professionals from the arts community who are familiar with the global art market. Her artworks are appraised by an art expert who establishes her value by considering her growing presence in the American market.

In 2019, she continued her professional path with international exhibitions, notably at the Art Palm Beach Contemporary Art Fair, in West Palm Beach (USA), at the Museum of Contemporary Art in 3D VR (MAC VR 3D in French) in France, and at the Internation’ART, an international art exhibition in Canada. She obtained several distinctions for her work, including a Great Honorary Distinction from CIAAZ and two certificates of recognition for her participation of collective art exhibitions in a museum in France. She will obtain two more certificates in 2020 and one in 2021 for international exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art in 3D VR (MACVR3D). Also in 2019, the artist is permanently represented in the Corrid’Art in Lac-Beauport, a full-art exhibition at the Gentiane Park. A second painting will be added thereafter in 2021. In the meantime, in 2019 and 2020, she participates in the event “The month of galleries” respectively in the interior courtyard of the Civilization Museum in Quebec City and at the Old Port of Quebec.

In 2020, she is one of the few professional artists participating in a sociological study on the effects of the pandemic on artistic practice among visual artists. Texts are published in two parts, on HEART, arts magazine. In the Summer of 2021, she reiterates the experience with some selected artists to be part of the continuation of the sociological study.

Currently, DUMONT is in production and is preparing her next exhibitions.
